Five British Brand Builders Excelling with Digital Asset Management

Avoiding ‘content chaos’ comes high on the to-do list for most marketers. At Canto, we love to champion people who are successfully building brands and realising ROI. Here, we celebrate five inspiring brand builders in the UK who stand out from the crowd – and shed light on how a digital asset management (DAM) platform helped them level up their content.

1. Jenny Cobelli of Big Dip Studio, Domino’s Pizza UK

The in-house creative agency for Domino’s Pizza UK, Big Dip Studio, had years of brilliant creative assets. Still, these were poorly organised and saved across multiple cloud platforms and even locally on people’s desktops. “It was taking days of our time to find assets that we already owned,” according to Jenny Cobelli, Head of Creative.

Enter Canto. Introducing a DAM solution enabled Big Dip Studio to collate, store, organise, and distribute its digital assets. It also freed up creative time for Jenny’s whole team, saved the business from redoing costly photoshoots, and empowered franchisees to use on-brand assets.

Jenny explains how Domino’s Pizza UK serves up efficiencies: “We’ve created this fluid, streamlined system where you can find your request and essentially be self-sufficient.”

2. Tim Stavrinou of Alpha Universe, Sony Europe

As one of the world’s largest camera manufacturers, Sony shares the work of more than 100 professional photographer ambassadors from 30 countries on its Alpha Universe platform. The only problem was that Sony’s ambassadors were so enthusiastic about its products that the team was running out of room to store the hundreds of images and videos arriving every week. Searching for a particular file was nearly impossible.

So, Tim Stavrinou, Alpha Universe’s Digital Imaging Content Marketing Manager, turned to Canto to manage the volume of imagery, streamline requests from country marketing teams, and drive product sales through content.

Now, Sony not only has a centralised library of ambassador assets – but one that provides added value through custom metadata mapping, AI-driven smart tagging, and a Canto Portal for internal users to self-serve assets. Tim says, “I can quickly go in and say, ‘Show me everything taken on this camera and this lens’, and Canto just pulls it up instantly.”

3. Richard Hirson of Fy!

For the fast-growing homeware and art marketplace Fy!, visual content is everything. But previously, all the assets from its network of artists and suppliers were stored on a Google Drive that only a few people could access. Fy!’s marketing lead, Richard Hirson, needed a better way.

“Our requirements from Canto were very straightforward. We want to be able to put the images somewhere. We want to be able to tag them. We want to be able to find the images and share them with people who need them,” says Richard.

And that’s exactly what Richard has achieved with Canto. When creators send images and videos to Fy!, its influencer team uploads the best assets to the Canto library along with metadata and image rights data. Having an easily searchable platform has empowered the whole team to source the best images, and speeding up workflows means requests take minutes, not hours, to complete. 4. Clarissa Hearn of Shuttercraft

Shuttercraft is one of the UK’s largest shutter and blind companies, with 32 franchise locations. For Franchise Manager Clarissa Hearn, this posed a challenge for managing incoming images and supporting sales reps who needed to quickly find particular photos when meeting customers.

Migrating from shared drives to Canto transformed Shuttercraft’s marketing and sales. With the organisation that a DAM platform provides, combined with Canto’s Adobe InDesign integration, Clarissa improved the marketing campaigns and artworking process for her quarterly publications.

But perhaps the biggest change has been for sales reps who can find inspirational photos on the Portal whether at the customer’s home or in-store. “The hero collection is divided up into room types because it’s the most common area of customer interest. People in the network can just open Canto, go to living rooms and show customers living room inspiration designs,” says Clarissa.

5. Matt Barker of Portakabin

Portakabin is more than a manufacturer of modular buildings – it’s one of the UK’s most iconic and recognisable brands in the modular construction industry. But when Matt Barker joined its in-house studio as Creative Manager, he immediately saw the chance for improvement. “Our digital assets didn’t appear to be centralised or organised efficiently. Finding and using these assets was a manual and time-consuming process without any integration into the design software. There was an opportunity to improve the process and workflow here, as the risk of losing files or duplication was high,” Matt says.

Matt and his team set about replacing the existing DAM platform – with Canto and its workflow features. This meant not only centralised assets that feed seamlessly into Adobe apps with version control but also a fast and efficient way of sharing them.

Integrating Canto has streamlined content creation and helped manage the Portakabin brand. The diversity of content hosted on Canto, including graphics, photos, and videos, has made sharing files around the UK and European Marketing teams simple and quick. “We’re able to keep all the assets together for one particular project in one area, which is perfect for us,” adds Matt.

These British brand builders are only some of the inspirational marketers who are enhancing their content using a DAM solution. See more Canto customer success stories from the UK and worldwide right here.
